Each Tesla is equipped with an internet connection via cellular network. But you can also connect the car to a Wi-Fi network (even a smartphone with a mobile hotspot via Wi-Fi tethering).
This is especially useful in areas with limited or no cellular connectivity or if you want to speed up the download time of a software update.
Tesla recommends leaving your vehicle connected to a Wi-Fi network whenever possible.
Connecting to a Wi-Fi network
Follow these steps:
- Touch the cellular icon in the top right corner of the touchscreen (usually 3G or LTE)
- The car start scanning for available Wi-Fi networks
- Select the Wi-Fi network you want to use
- Enter the password (if necessary) and touch the Confirm button
Once your Tesla is connected to a Wi-Fi network, it will remember the login data and automatically connect to it whenever the network is within range.
Note: If more than one previously connected network is within range, your Tesla will connect to the one most recently used.
